In Minnesota, parents who are eligible may apply for a child care subsidy to help them pay for child care through Minnesota’s Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP).
The Basic Sliding Fee Child Care program, also referred to as the Child Care Assistance Program, subsidizes the child care expenses of low-income families. A portion of your family's child care costs may be paid for the time you work, look for work, or attend an educational institution or employment-related training. The program provides assistance for all children age 12 and younger, and for children ages 13 and 14 who have special needs.
Families must apply for assistance in the county where
they live. Families choose a care provider and inform
the county. The county will send registration forms to
the provider. The provider must have a Social Security
or a tax ID number and must pass a background check.
Families may be required to pay part of the child care
costs. This is called a copay. For a list of county human services office, see the Minnesota Department of Human Services web site.
