Head Start and Early Head Start are comprehensive child development programs that serve children from birth to age 5, pregnant women and their families. The child-focused programs increase the school readiness of young children from families with low incomes.
Head Start agencies are locally operated and federally funded. Programs include parental involvement, education and early childhood development; nutrition, medical, dental and mental health services.
