Foods children need to grow and be healthy
Children need healthy foods so their bodies and brains can grow.
Help children make good choices about food to keep them healthy.
Children need a mix of foods from the six food groups.
The six food groups are:
- Vegetables
- Grains – bread, rice, cereal
- Fruits
- Milk – milk, yogurt, cheese (these are very important to children)
- Meats – fish, chicken, beef, beans, eggs, peanut butter
- Fats, sweets and fast food – butter, oil, cookies, candy, hamburgers (do not let children eat very many of these foods)
